BLUESKY DONATES A.E.D. LIFE-SAVING MACHINES

Bluesky celebrated its 23rd Anniversary this past July  2022, marking over two decades of providing telecom services to the community since they first opened for business in the territory in July of 1999. Every year the company commemorates its anniversary by making a significant contribution to the community. This year, Bluesky chose to procure and donate six Automated External Defibrillator (AED)  Machines worth $15,000 to public buildings that are frequently used by the general community, to ensure the public facility is equipped to provide critical first aid assistance in the event of a life-threatening emergency.

In the most recent vital statistic report for American Samoa, of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity for men and women ages 15 to 59 in the territory, at the top of the list was sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA)occurs suddenly and often without warning. It is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia). With its pumping action disrupted, the heart cannot pump blood to the brain, lungs, and other organs. While SCA is fatal 95% of the time, most victims of SCA can survive if they get help very quickly. The Automated External Defibrillator (AED)  is designed to help individuals experiencing SCA. It’s a sophisticated, easy-to-use medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

As the number of fatalities continues to rise every year due to SCA, Bluesky passionately chose to help equip the public buildings in our community that is most frequented by the public with AED units. These buildings are The Airport Terminal Building, The Stadium  Building, The Executive Office Building (EOB), and the Department of Youth and Women’s  Affairs (DYWA) Buildings.

Bluesky has always committed to investing in our community and believes that a truly deep commitment to our community is a continuous process. Bluesky is grateful for the opportunity to give back in ways that will benefit the people of our community in both their welfare and health.

“Bluesky is always here to help, support, and serve our community. We are thankful to celebrate twenty-three years of service to our island. With a grateful heart, thank you  American Samoa for your support these past twenty-three years. We hope this donation will be beneficial to our community and be of assistance to our people in the case of an  emergency.” Says Justin Tuiasosopo, Bluesky’s Chief Executive Officer.
